There are few people who haven’t noticed the droves of children pounding the streets since the launch of “Pokemon Go”. Intended to encourage kids to get outside, Pokemon Go is a free game that allows you to catch Pokemon whilst walking about – the further you walk, the more Pokemon you catch!

The Muncie Animal Shelter in Indiana noticed too, and thought of a great idea to bring some good from it. On their Facebook page, they asked all and any Pokemon Go players to take one of the shelter’s dogs out for a walk as they went searching for new Pokemon.

Animal Shelter Uses Pokemon Go to Help Their Dogs

“The idea is that they take the dog on kind of an adventure for the day. It would be great if every one of those individual had one of our dogs with them.” – Phil Peckinpaugh, shelter director.

The post has over 1,000 comments, 10,000 likes and nearly 29,000 shares! Nearly 100 people turned up the next day to walk the dogs, and the shelter reported having a line out the door of people queuing up to help out.

The help didn’t even stop there, one lucky dog was even adopted after a walker became so besotted with him!

“I didn’t have any ulterior motives; it was an incredibly pure motive. I just wanted our dogs walked. That’s still all I want, I just want people to come and walk our dogs.” – Phil.

The dog walking is still ongoing – you just need to turn up, sign a waiver and off you go searching for Pokemon with your furry companion!
