Rachel Rawlings’ life was transformed in June 2017 thanks to golden retriever Darcey. In the video below Rachel, who has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and ME, performs an original song that she wrote to express just how much her canine partner Darcey has changed her life for the better.

Lyrics to ‘Yellow’ by Rachel Rawlings

Hello, Sunshine,
You threw my life into disarray.
Truth be told though,
Life’s getting better every day.

And I had no idea,
How much change could happen in a year.
So I think I better tell ya,
That I love you, Yellow.

Hello, Sunshine.
You pick me up when I fall down.
You’re my best protector,
Dressed in shades of golden brown.

And I had no idea,
How much change could happen in a year.
So I think I better tell ya,
That I love you, Yellow.

And anyone could have told me,
I was not living at my best.
I was tripping at every hurdle,
and failing every test.

So let me tell you darling,
though I fear you might not understand.
Nothing seems impossible when I’ve got my best girl at hand.

And I had no idea,
How much change could happen in a year.
So I think I better tell ya,
Oh I think I better tell ya,
Oh I think I better tell ya,
That I love you, Yellow.

  1. Hi I work for a national ME charity in the UK called the 25% ME Group, we deal with those who are severely and very severely affected. We have about 600 members and we write a newsletter every summer and winter. I was trying to find something uplifting to brighten up my readers as many of the topics we have to cover are anything but uplifting. I came across this page and thought the song and lyrics were excellent and I would love to have permission from the author to reproduce the lyrics in our newsletter. I would love to feature the pic as well but totally understand if that is a not possible. Many thanks for reading this and I hope you can help. Many thanks, Linda Conner, 25% ME Group
