Love Parks Week kicks off from 25th July to 3rd August. The seven days are dedicated to campaigning and events designed to celebrate parks to promote healthy and happy communities.

As part of Love Parks Week, Blue Cross is launching its Pledge for Better Parks campaign which focuses on making open spaces places that people and pets can equally enjoy. In a recent survey conducted by the Blue Cross they found over half of those questioned agreed that clearing up pet mess is the most important thing for dog owners, closely followed by fears over unruly and out-of-control dogs.

In response to the research Blue Cross has put together five pledges for pet owners which they hope will make owners and their dogs more attractive and welcomed in parks.

The 5 pledges are:

1.  To make sure their dog is safe around others
2. To always know where their dog is when not on their lead
3. To teach their dog to come back to them when called
4. To always bag and bin their dog’s poo
5. To make sure their pet is always a joy and never a nuisance

Towie star Lydia Bright, who is supporting the campaign, said “I love taking my dogs to the park and do everything I can to make sure they don’t bother anyone or leave any mess. By signing the Blue Cross pledge we dog owners can unite to make sure going to the park is enjoyable for everyone!”

The new research also revealed that walking the dog has led to new friendships and even romance for 65% of pet owners. A fact that fellow supporter of the campaign and TV presenter, Ben Fogle can confirm, “Walking your dog is a wonderful way to meet people. I should know, I met my wife while walking my dog Inca!”
