One of the Phoenix Children’s Foundations gorgeous Shetlands, Tickle, was recently a bridesmaid! The happy couple, Rona Borland and Robert Underhill, organised for the pony to be at their wedding in February, where guests were invited to donate to Phoenix rather than to give presents. This kind of sponsorship really helps makes the charity’s work possible.

Shetland Pony is a Bridesmaid For The Day!

The Phoenix Children’s Foundation has been supporting severely ill and disabled children throughout the UK since 2006. The Leicester-based charity provides families with specialist equipment such as custom-built car seats, and provides therapeutic activities like riding lessons and music therapy sessions.

Their aim is to improve the quality of life for terminally ill and special needs children and their families, via a number of schools, hospices, and hospitals by donating specialist trikes and toys, hippotherapy sessions carried out on horseback, and equipment like specialist acoustic mattresses.

The charity places a great deal of emphasis on horses, seeing riding as a way of giving disabled children independence and freedom, and has several Shetland ponies which are used as petting ponies. The Phoenix Children’s Foundation also offers a Sponsor a Pony Scheme and has close connections with Riding for the Disabled, sponsoring 40 RDA groups.
