Looking for a great place to enjoy a coffee and / or lunch? Want to avoid the large chains? Our Food for Thought series will offer you insight into cafés that provide good food and drink whilst helping others.
The Fold Cafe
Address: The Fold, New House Farm, Bransford, Worcester WR6 5JB Open to the public: 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday; 10am – 4pm Sundays Website: www.thefold.org.uk/the-fold-cafeJust sometimes I become really envious of people who own properties next to a favourite eating venue. There are new houses just completed opposite the Fold Care Farm and each time I visit, I think “you lucky people”. The Fold is a classic Social Enterprise, eager to give and not to take as evidenced by their green credentials – solar panels and all. The ethos is a simple one – the café sells food either grown on their care farm or locally/ ethically sourced.
It is open 7 days at Bransford – a couple of miles from Worcester on the Hereford road. You pretty much have to drive there. Popular too, particularly at weekends. The service is always enthusiastic .
The venue stages folk nights, poetry nights, monthly markets and so much more. Its around 25 miles from where I live but even so I try to visit half a dozen times a year. Just go – you won’t regret it.
Food & Drink
You can’t buy Coca Cola here – much to my wife’s muted dismay. The menu is not wide but is always imaginative and oh my, it is tasty. Weather permitting, there’s an outdoor area if al fresco is your bag.
