While most dogs that arrive at the Dogs Trust find loving new homes within about six weeks of walking through the charity’s doors, some stay with the charity for life.
Molly is one of those very special dogs.
Celine Di Crocco, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Loughborough, said, “Molly first arrived at Dogs Trust at just eight months old way back in 2009 from another kennels. Although on a couple of occasions it looked like she’d found her ideal home, it wasn’t meant to be, so we have the privilege of looking after her!
“She can get anxious around people she doesn’t know but she knows us all here so she is really settled and has an incredible bond with some of the team.”
Crossbreed Molly has spent almost all of her eight-years with Dogs Trust and recently celebrated her birthday with her favourite friends at the centre.
“She thrives on the routine so we feel it’s best that her forever home is here with us, so we like to celebrate her birthday and make it really special,” explains Celine.
On the big day, Molly’s canine carers organised a party for her and the birthday girl enjoyed lots of special doggy treats, unwrapped her presents, enjoyed a long walk and had lots of cuddles. In return she gave out kisses and high fives, just two of her tricks she likes to show off.
Dogs Trust Loughborough cares for at least 100 dogs at any one time and last year found forever homes for almost 700. Already this year the team have said a fond farewell to more than 40 who have headed off with their new families, but for some their ideal home is the familiar surroundings of the Hill Farm Rehoming Centre.
“Dogs Trust never puts a healthy dog down so when we get to know a dog and believe the familiarity of the centre is the place they’ll be happiest, they stay with us for life. Molly is a happy girl here and is a real character, who is actually quite the performer so she was definitely the star of her own party and I’m sure she will be for many years to come!” said Celine
