Indian Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, who has a restaurant in Rajkot, joined locals in supporting the initiative by donating sports toys for children to enjoy.

The Spirit of Freedom Charitable Trust believe that with the population in India growing rapidly, there is a huge educational issue for the country with a shortage of teachers, books and basic facilities, plus insufficient funds to cover education costs.

Devang Gondhia, Founder and Chairman of the Spirit of Freedom Charitable Trust, created the NGO in 2012. Passionate about helping underprivileged people in Rajkot, Devang and his fellow volunteers meet every weekend to teach a group of 30 –35 children living in a slum. Currently teaching the children outside, his dream is to build a school where they can teach the children maths, English and IT skills all year round, regardless of the weather.

Until the NGO are able to work through the bureaucratic challenges they face to achieve this dream, they will continue to do what they can to help people living in slums in Rajkot.

The volunteers have worked together to help clean up the slum areas, and have provided free medical help to the people living there. For their next festival-based project, they will be giving children kites so they can join in with the popular kite festival, Uttarayan, taking place on the 14th January.

Spirit of Freedom Charitable Trust do not accept financial donations, but if you would like to support their work they are always looking for more volunteers- please get in touch with them if you are interested in finding out more.
