A rescue dog who found herself without a home as a puppy, has had a starring role in her new owner’s wedding, becoming the ring-bearer for their big day.

Bev and Mick Walters of Shipley said they knew the moment they started planning their wedding that Golden Retriever, Honey, would be there.

As ring bearer, she almost halted proceedings as she very slowly made her way down the aisle, stopping to say hello to all the guests and lapping up all the love!

“There was no way she wasn’t going to be part of our big day as she is absolutely part of our family! It was so funny waiting for her to get to us but we didn’t mind at all,” said Bev. “She is beautiful and deserved to get lots of attention!”

Honey arrived at Dogs Trust Leeds with a broken leg as a young puppy and had spent most of her life indoors. As a result Bev and Mick had to slowly introduce her to all the fun the big wide world had to offer her by their side. Three years later she is a happy, confident dog who was more than comfortable stealing the limelight from her doting owners.

After the special day was over Bev and Mick took Honey to visit the team at Dogs Trust Leeds and to also donate a cheque for £500 that had been raised by the guests at the wedding.

“We asked people to make a donation to Dogs Trust rather than buy us gifts and it was lovely taking Honey to see the staff,” Bev said. “They were really pleased to see her and we just wanted to say thank you for looking after her and enabling us to welcome her into our family.”
