22 residents and 4 Queen Elizabeth Foundation staff members have formed a 26 strong ‘Diversity Choir’, singing and signing to Andra Day’s ‘Rise Up’.
Some people can vocalise and so join in with the singing and others sign depending on their abilities, bringing everyone together as one Diversity Choir.
The choir members are aged 20-40 years old and as they have varying complex disabilities, some people can vocalise and so join in with the singing and others sign depending on their abilities. They are independent living residents so are all under the same roof but adhere to social distancing.
The group have formed to try and inspire the country to come together through their singing and also to show their families that they are doing okay without seeing them– they haven’t seen them for going on six weeks now, longer than most people as the charity began limiting access early as they are classified as vulnerable due to their disabilities.
