In May 2003 a group of local people raised £65,000, which was used to convert part of a church building into a cafe. It opened in September 2004. Common Grounds cafe began as a desire to reach out to the local and global community. Profits are given away to support humanitarian projects around the world. Hot food is served throughout the day at the cafe. Located near a university I expected the prices to be a bit lower, but the quality of the food and drink was good. Click here to see the menu.

Common Grounds cafe run a suspended coffee scheme with a twist – you can buy a coffee or soup for a stranger in need, or you can surprise a friend with a meal or dessert!

The cafe is located at 12-24 University Avenue Belfast BT7 1GY.

The opening hours are: Mon – Fri: 8.30am – 9.30pm. Sat: 10am – 5pm. Sun: Closed.

The cafe is a short walk away from Queen’s University, Belfast. The Botanic Gardens is approximately 10 minutes walk away, and the city centre is approximately 20 minutes walk from the cafe.
