In episode 20 of the Good News Shared podcast I spoke with Kerri Sykes, a volunteer for the Young Women’s Trust. Like Molly in episode 19, Kerri is volunteering for a charity that has supported her previously.

Young Women’s Trust is a charity which supports and represents 1 million young women aged 16-30 in low paid employment or receiving no pay. They deliver services to help young women find meaningful employment opportunities but also campaign on the issues which impact on their financial and general well-being.

Young Women's Trust Volunteer Talks about Confidence, Beyonce, and ApprenticeshipsKerri became aware of the Young Women’s Trust when she was unemployed and looking for work. She used one of the services from the charity which provides job coaching support- tailored to the individual.

Having gone through coaching sessions, Kerri is now on a paid traineeship, volunteering with Young Women’s Trust and has just been accepted onto a civic leadership scheme in her local borough. What makes Kerri’s story particularly pertinent is that she lost her mother only a few years ago and became the legal guardian for her younger sister- who was ten at the time.

In the interview you will hear about the work the charity do, what Kerri’s volunteering role involves, some good news from the charity, and much more.
