Grassmarket Cafe is a lovely little gem tucked away in the old Grassmarket area of Edinburgh. It would be easy to miss but that would be a shame. It is based in the Grassmarket Centre which is the home of Grassmarket Community Project, a charity/social enterprise supporting vulnerable adults. The Project also encompasses other social enterprises including a furniture workshop and event space for everything from Edinburgh Festival to a romantic wedding.

The coffee here has a great reputation, but other things are equally good. For breakfast there’s bacon and sausage breakfast rolls, and for lunch always soup, wraps and sandwiches among other specials. Cakes and scones are homemade and delicious.

Nearby you will find Greyfriars Bobby, the famous little dog statue, along with Greyfriars Church and Churchyard where there are some names which were inspiration for JK Rowling when she wrote Harry Potter.
