A Manchester-based not-for-profit organisation has teamed up with GG Events and Catering, owned by footballing legends Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, to tackle the issue of food poverty.

Manchester-Based Social Venture Announces Partnership with Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs' Company to Tackle Food PovertyBy forming partnerships with restaurants and food-giving charities, Foodinate ensures that every delicious Foodinate-selected drink or meal you enjoy with their partners results in a meal for a local person in need.

The new partnership means that for every single person attending an event booked through GG Events and Catering, Foodinate will ensure a hot, nourishing meal is provided to a local person in need at no extra cost. The packages are available at all GG Events and Catering locations including Hotel Football, National Football Museum, Manchester Catherdral and Salford City FC.

Since launching its pilot study in September 2015, the innovative not-for-profit organisation has secured over 23,000 meals for people in need, that are served at a number of beneficiary centres including Mustard Tree in Manchester city centre, which provides hot, nutricious food for homeless people.

Foodinate’s 25 year old founder, Caroline Stevenson, came up with the idea for Foodinate after seeing first hand that the level of need had increased.

Manchester-Based Social Venture Announces Partnership with Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs' Company to Tackle Food Poverty“Growing up in Manchester, I felt so angry seeing the increasing number of people sleeping by the sides of the road, begging for money and food. It’s crazy to think that we live in the seventh richest country in the world, yet more than 13 million people are living below the poverty line,” Caroline said. “With one in six parents in the UK reporting having gone without food themselves so they can afford to feed their families, I knew there was a social need for my venture. I wanted to create a sustainable impact on this enormous issue and Foodinate aims to do just that.”

Former Manchester United stars Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs were keen to get involved as soon as they heard about Foodinate.

“When we heard about the Foodinate scheme, we knew it was something we wanted our events and catering company to be involved with,” Gary Neville said. “Homelessness is a serious problem and if we can help make a difference, we will. Providing free meals to people through GG Events and Catering is important to us  – we have lots of different events lined up for this year, we’re growing and getting more venues on board.“
