Hope was terrified when she first arrived at Mayhew

The tiny three-month-old mixed breed, called Hope, was recently brought into London-based animal welfare charity, Mayhew, after she was no longer wanted.

Mayhew’s Dog Adoption Officer, Lisa Guiney, said:

“Poor Hope looked very scared when she first arrived at Mayhew. She was quickly seen by our
experienced Vet team at our on-site Community Vet Clinic,”
said Lisa Guiney, Mayhew’s Dog Adoption Officer. “Lack of research before getting a pet means many owners have an incomplete understanding of what a pet needs for a healthy, happy life. They should be aware of the five animal welfare needs that must be met, which include the need for a suitable diet and environment and to be protected from pain, injury, disease and suffering.

“We urge people to think responsibly about where they get their pets from and consider adopting a rescue dog from a reputable shelter, as they are full of gorgeous canines waiting for loving homes.”

Hope was not in the best condition when she was taken to the charity.

“When Hope first arrived she was very pot-bellied and had diarrhoea, which indicated she may have had worms,” said Mayhew’s Vet, Dr Emily Richardson. “It is very common for puppies to be born with worms, particularly if the mother has not been treated for parasites. Hope received worming treatment plus other supportive treatment for the diarrhoea. She was soon back to her bouncy and sweet self in no time.”

As soon as Hope was fully vaccinated and neutered, she was ready for adoption and quickly found a new forever home.
