Ranked #1 in Sheffield on TripAdvisor at the time of visiting and writing, The Hidden Gem café is well worth looking for.
It’s not actually as difficult to find as the name might suggest, but it is a bus ride or a car journey away from the centre of Sheffield, meaning you might have to make a special trip to visit this cafe. But it will be well worth it, as the food and drink is sure to leave you feeling happy, full and very satisfied.
The Hidden Gem is run by WORK Ltd, a local charity that offers people with learning disabilities a chance to reach their full potential in life. The charity provides a friendly, encouraging and rewarding environment for people with learning disabilities to develop life skills which helps to build confidence and self-esteem.
WORK Ltd began with just twelve students in 1995. From humble beginnings it has grown dramatically and serves over 78 students each week, with a dedicated team of staff tailoring support for each individual to meet their specific needs.
Hands on work projects to develop life skills are offered to people with learning disabilities aged 16+. Activities include woodwork, gardening, textiles, arts & crafts, nature walks, sports, dance, music and drama.
The services provided by the charity are sustained by donations and the proceeds from their award-winning café, The Hidden Gem, and from their gift shop and new online store.
